I think I am..no, I know I am…
I woke up early this morning due to the sun shining brightly in my eyes…this time of the year the sun comes bursting in my room earlier and earlier and tricks me into thinking its time to get up. But I don’t want to get up, I want to sleep. I want to sleep so I don’t have to think. Because then I have to make decisions about my life and my future and I’m having trouble doing that. I try desperately for a half hour to go back to sleep but the sun is shining and the thoughts keep coming. So I just get up.
There are so many decisions to be made and I wish someone else could just make them for me. I don’t want to make anymore decisions. I’m 68, shouldn’t my decision making days be over…guess not! And so having said that…I still have to make some. Where am I going to live? What am I going to do to make money to live where I want to live? Do I wait or do I put the house on the market now? What am I waiting for? What do I really want to do with the next 20 good years I have left? I think I know the answers to these questions…I think I have it all figured out and then..poof…I don’t. I start to doubt myself and what I want. How do I know its what I really want? How do I know I should do what my soul is telling me to do? Is that even practical? Do I have to be practical? I have to make some decisions….but…I can’t! How do I stop being “stuck”…
I always post quotes about whatever subject I am blogging about and when I searched today for some, so many came up that spoke to me I decided to share them with you. We all have times when we are just “stuck”…maybe these will help.
Top Ten Quotes About Being Stuck

8. “Whenever I have found myself stuck in the ways I relate to things, I return to nature. It’s my principal teacher, and I try to open my whole being to what it has to say.” ~ Wayne Bullock
9. “One reason people resist change is because they focus on what they have to give up, instead of what they have to gain.” ~ Rick Godwin
10. “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.” ~ John Wayne
All of these quotes are great and really struck a cord in one way or another. The “return to nature” quote is something I try to do often and I get most of my best ideas and thoughts when I do this. It was on the beach in the Outer Banks last month that I heard the voice speak to me and tell me this is where I needed to be. Sometimes you know where you want to be, you just don’t know how to get there….
I saw this quote below and while it didn’t really speak to the issues at hand, it did speak to me…
“My worst nightmare is being stuck somewhere with nothing to read.” ~ Barbara Kingsolver (Me too Barbara, me too!)
Great quotes.. It is hard and scary.. think of all the times you did make those changes, how you did it and how you felt after you did it. I think it does get harder as you get older. Maybe you can print this list and read it several times a day, it may help you make that leap of faith.. sometimes you just have to jump and it helps to close your eyes and take a deep breathe when you do it!! P.S. don’t forget to exhale when you land.. :}
Thanks Mary…you have been through a lot of the changes with me…maybe that’s whats different..
The more I read what you have written the more I think we might be related, soul sisters maybe! We do seem to think alike, It might be our age or just where we are in our lives, but I really enjoy you. Just be sure to make the decision to keep writing.
Thank you so much Teresa! I love writing..it soothes my soul!
I don’t have time to be stuck right now. And I’m grateful for the ability to make decisions. I only have to look at my mother in law to see the alternative.
Alana I agree but its just not that easy to make a decision this time around…so many variables…grandkids being the top one…
These quotes are all meaningful and in some way helpful with perspective, but the last one is so “me” it really made me smile!
Thank you Karen…it is so me too!
When I feel stuck, I just think of the words of Dory, the Fish: Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Swimming. Swimming.
Love that Diane…I will keep swimming…
I love quotes #2,5 and 9! Such a hard choice Renee! Just doesn’t seem choices get any easier as we get older. We can weigh the pros and cons on paper ,we can talk about various scenarios but still we have to come to a decision ourselves! What about a trial move to the Outer-banks for 6 months or a year and rent out your home? Would that just prolong the choice? I only wish you the best!!
Thank you Haralee…I would love to move to the Outer Banks…but its too far from my grands…that is part of the problem…I dont want to be too far from the kids…
Sometimes, being stuck is good for us. Though it takes a whole lot of patience to wait it out (not something I am good at).
I guess I am stuck for a reason…I just hope it turns out to be a good one cute I’m not good at waiting either…Thanks Sharon…
Knowing you are stuck is more than half the battle. Those that do not realize they are stuck are in the worst shape. My humble opinion is that you head to the shore since that is the area that affords you the most comfort. 68 is the new 48. Make the move before you truly become a senior citizen.
Well that true Andy…at least I know I’m stuck…LOL…good advice!
Last year we were going to sell the condo and buy a rancher. We decided not to, but now wonder if that was the right decision. It’s so hard to know if we did the right thing or not . I can only imagine how difficult your choice to move to the beach is. Loved all of the quotes you came up wth.
Thanks Peg! I just think it gets harder as we get older…more things to consider…
Hey you hellion! Here’s my quote about making up your mind: If you can’t decide something it is because you don’t have enough information yet. Who could you talk to TODAY to clarify answers to all of your questions? Would a good realtor know whether you should sell your home sooner or later? Research possibilities of where you might move next. Gather as much info. as you can before you do anything else. Then it might all turn into what I call the “decisionless decision” meaning it’s super obvious what comes next. You now know exactly what’s next!
Thanks Laura, sometimes I think I know what to do and then I don’t…there are so many other variables involved beside the house.. which make it not that simple…
Everything you want is on the other side of fear…
I have never been afraid…I have always just plunged into what ever it was I wanted…I guess that changes sometimes as we age…
